"The Sintra mountain range is a small massif - the Roman promontory of the Moon - facing the ocean and rising to 528 m at Cruz Alta. Once the domain of forests, the mountain changed its appearance after the introduction of various forest essences. Today, in certain stretches, you can breathe an air of dense forest, contrasting with the coverage of the coastal strip or the limestone platform of São João das Lampas. Plant exoticism reaches its greatest expression in the parks of Pena and Monserrate, shrouded in fog that gives a certain mysticism to the landscape.

With 14,450.84 ha, the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park features cliffs, low cliffs, beaches, dunes and the face of Cabo da Roca, featuring a seafront that impresses with its vigor and where there are even trails of dinosaur footprints ( Grande do Rodízio beach).

In addition to countless examples of erudite construction - the Vila Palace, with its unique chimneys, is the symbol of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park - it also houses, in its rural area, curious manifestations of popular architecture.

The undeniable scenic value associated with this protected area was recognized by UNESCO by including part of the mountains and historic center of Sintra on the World Heritage List with the category of "cultural landscape".
